About

The Japanese word "Hana" means flower, and "to" means together.

Hanato, founded by visual artist Soonhwa Kang, is a space where creativity takes root and grows—like a flower shaped by its environment and care.

At Hanato Atelier, Soonhwa shares Sumi-e (Japanese Ink Painting)—a practice that opened her heart and mind to perceive the world anew. Rooted in natural materials and the traces of history, her work moves between honoring tradition and a contemporary way of seeing.

Here, hand-making is not a pastime, but a way to create, connect, and reflect—a grounding act in today's fast-paced, fractured world. Soonhwa also invites other creatives to share their experience with natural materials and cultural heritage, believing that slowing down, listening to the material, and meeting open-minded people is at the heart of it all.
